St Mellitus College, South West

At the invitation of the Bishops of Truro and Exeter, St Mellitus College is launching a new centre in September 2017. This will be based in St Matthias, Plymouth and will provide full-time, context-based ordination training to complement the provision already in existence locally in the South West.

We are pleased to announce that the Revd Dr Donna Lazenby has been appointed as Director of St Mellitus College, South West. Donna is currently a Tutor and Lecturer in Spirituality and Apologetics at St Mellitus College, Assistant Priest at Parishes of All Saints, Kenley and St Barnabas, Purley, and Lead Minister to The Hayes Church. Donna grew up in the South West. Born in Plymouth, she lived in Saltash, Cornwall, and then Bere Alston and Torquay, Devon, where she attended St Cuthbert Mayne School and Sixth-Form. She moved to Cambridge University to pursue BA, MPhil and PhD Degrees in Philosophy and Theology, trained for ordained ministry at Westcott House, and served a curacy in the Diocese of Southwark. Donna’s PhD research, now published, and a winner of The John Templeton Award for Theological Promise 2011, explored points of contact between the Christian mystical tradition and atheistic literature, and she remains fascinated by the relationship between the Church and contemporary culture. Areas of continuing research include Christian spirituality, sacramental and systematic theology, prophetic-creative literature, the theology of ‘formation’ for lay and ordained identities, the theology of priesthood, the constructive relating of various Church traditions, and the convergence of ‘traditional’ mystical and ‘contemporary’ charismatic passions. Her second book, Divine Sparks: Everyday Encounters with God’s Incoming Kingdom, is published this year with SPCK.
